TURIN, Italy (AP) — The Italian Cup semifinal between Inter Milan and Juventus ended with a mass scuffle and three red cards following a 1-1 draw in the first leg on Tuesday. After Romelu Lukaku converted a penalty in stoppage time to equalize for Inter, the Belgium striker picked up his second yellow card for apparently taunting the crowd.Juan Cuadrado, who had put Juventus ahead in the 83rd, and Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic were also shown red cards as they clashed after the final whistle, with players from both teams then getting involved as they tried to separate the two.“It’s nothing, just a bit of chaos at the end of a balanced game,” Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri said. “We knew it would be difficult. Although they were coming off a difficult period, they are still Inter and proved it tonight.”Lukaku, Cuadrado and Handanovic should all miss the second leg on April 26.Last-place Serie A club Cremonese hosts Fiorentina in the other semifinal on Wednesday. The resu...

SAN DIEGO (AP) — San Diego Padres slugger Manny Machado was ejected by plate umpire Ron Kulpa after being called out on strikes on a pitch clock violation to end the first inning of Tuesday’s game against Arizona. Machado was adjusting his batting gloves and appeared to be calling time as the clock wound down to 8 seconds, by which time a batter must be facing the pitcher under new rules adopted for this season to speed the pace of play. Kulpa didn’t grant time, apparently because the clock had already hit 8 seconds, and called him out. Machado stood at the plate arguing with Kulpa as manager Bob Melvin came out. Machado said something to Kulpa and was ejected.Machado, who was the designated hitter, was eventually escorted toward the dugout by another umpire. It was the 10th ejection of Machado’s career.Machado committed the first pitch clock violation during spring training and shrugged it off after getting two hits that day.___AP MLB: https://apnews.com/hub/MLB an...

The reaction to former President Donald Trump’s 34-count indictment broke along party lines, as expected.“The prosecution and … arraignment appear to be little more than a way for this DA, who campaigned on prosecuting the former president, to advance his own career,” MassGOP Chairwoman Amy Carnevale said. The 45th president left the Criminal Courts Building in Manhattan Tuesday and departed for his home in Florida, not long after Assistant District Attorney Christopher Conroy told a New York judge the president had falsified records regarding his business dealings in the lead up to the 2016 campaign in such a way that misdemeanor charges should be elevated to felonies. The falsifications, prosecutors allege, are rooted in hush-money payments made to people with whom Trump allegedly had extramarital sexual encounters and paid for silence in the days leading up to his first election and which amount to high-level crimes in New York.In a press conference following Trump’s un...
